Independence Day is a wonderful holiday. I have a deep appreciation for our country and I love celebrating it. You don't often hear the other three verses in the Star Spangled Banner, but I love them especially the last, which reads:
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
between their loved home and the war's desolation!
This year definitely was not like it is spending the 4th in Washington D.C., but we had a good time. We went to the parade in Provo with Chris's brother and his family. It was pretty fun. We ended up leaving at 6:30 in the morning in order to get down there and get a spot to even see the parade since people actually staked out their spots since three o'clock on the 3rd! Lydia just laid in her seat until we found a spot and then after while fell back asleep which made me happy. Then the motorcycle pre-parade gang came barreling through with their revving engines and backfire noises and woke her up again. She slept through it for longer than I would have though. So we got her dressed and fed and all and ready to watch the parade with us!

Chris and I obviously tired....saving our spot for the parade.

Lydia saving the spot for the parade. She was such a good sport!

After Lydia slept a little more and then got dressed and ready for the Party!

Our niece, Kate, and Lydia

Protecting Lia's ears from the LOUD sirens at the beginning of the parade. I love her face!
After the parade, Matthew and his family came and we visited at our house and just relaxed. Chris then had to go to work...bummer....and I went to my brother's to spend the evening with them.
We had a relaxing couple of hours at the park and then went home and I actually took a nap (being up since 5 a.m. was tiring especially with all that sun) with my Lydia! It was wonderful. Dinner was great with lots of yummy fruit and then we got rained out of fireworks....but it was a pretty good storm and nature had quite a few fireworks of her own!! So we sat out on the porch and watched the lightning. Then some of their neighbors started lighting some big fireworks. So we got to see a pretty go show of fireworks after all. Lydia slept through them all on my lap. That surprised me. I kind of wanted to see her watch them...but oh well.

Lydia and I cuddled up because it was really cold outside during the storm.....(middle) Like ten minutes later....and then about five minutes after that....she's out!
Our fun little firework show. It was actually pretty impressive for just a couple of neighbors.
HaPpY 4th of JuLy!
