Visit to the Hospital

On Sunday morning Brindy was having some abdominal pain. It just so happened to be the sunday that she was assigned to teach the combined Young Women lesson that she had been soooo worried about for months now. She had spent so much time on her lesson and was prepared to give it, but did not feel like she could go to church. We stayed home from sacrament meeting and sunday school so that we could try and just go for the last hour so she could teach and come home. Even then she did not feel like she could stay and teach, the nerves weren't helping with the pain I don't think. Any way so we finally called a doctor who called in a prescription for us to go pick up at the pharmacy, we did and took some hoping that might ease her symptoms, but it didn't. They just kept getting worse. Her pain moved from her lower abdomen into her back and her right side. As we sat and researched different possibilities on the internet we decided to call the doctor again to see if there was something we could do for the pain. He advised us to just go in to the hospital. We thought about it and Brindy decided she could try and wait out a little longer maybe wait a few days to see if the antibiotics might help. We went to bed around 11:30 p.m. and Brindy woke up at about 12:00 a.m. in pain. Hoping that it might get better if she would just sleep. She kept trying different positions to make the pain ease, but finally at 1:00 a.m. she woke Chris up and told him that she thought we should probably go in.

(These pictures were taken with our phone so they aren't the best.)
We went to the Emergency Room, who told us we had to go to Labor and Delivery! They forced Brindy into a wheelchair and pushed her all the way across the hospital to Labor and Delivery where they had a room for her and gave her one of those lovely gowns that hospitals are so famous for. She was really pretty embarrassed. We both thought that they would just do a little examination and give us some pain pills and send us home. We felt a little silly that they were doing all of this without knowing if her pain was even legitimate. :) Around 2:30 a.m. they finally got us in for an ultrasound since you can't really have X-rays when you're pregnant and found that Brindy had kidney stones. This was somewhat of a relief, Brindy finally could accept the fact that she really was in pain and she wasn't just being a wimp. For the rest of the night they had us hooked up to monitors making sure that Brindy wasn't going into labor and that the baby was stable and we waited for the next morning to talk with the urologist.

All day monday they decided to put Brindy on a clear liquid diet to try and see if she could pass the stones on her own. So for breakfast she had a popsicle and chicken broth, lunch she had jello and chicken broth, and finally at dinner they gave her some crackers. They said that if it didn't pass by midnight, they would restrict all food and drink to prepare her for surgery on tuesday.

Midnight came....no passing. So Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. they came to take her down to surgery. In THIS CHAIR!:

Ha Ha! I think that three Brindy's could have almost fit in it. The guy took her all the way down to the OR in this chair with her IV and everything just to have them tell him that he was supposed to bring her down in her bed...so he left her there in the "holding room" where there were several other patients comfortably waiting in their beds, while he went to get Brindy's.

Well the rest is history, they put her under, removed the stone and then brought her back. They monitored the baby for a while because the baby's heart rate kept dropping, but they finally decided it was okay and sent us home around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Man it felt good to come home.
